Owae Debuts with First Single “THINK I NEED TO CATCH A RIDE HOME” – An Anthem for the Restless and Wild-Hearted

Charlotte, NC — Introducing Owae, a genre-blurring rapper, singer, and storyteller whose debut single, “Think I Need to Catch a Ride Home,” captures the restless, conflicted spirit of a generation living at full speed — and constantly being pulled back by the weight of expectation.

With slick basslines, woozy melodies, and a confessional vocal tone, the track is a hypnotic swirl of late-night euphoria and looming reality. Drawing sonic comparisons to Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” it blends elements of alt-R&B, indie funk, and dark hip hop — warped, bold, and impossible to ignore.

But beneath the bounce is a deeper current. This is an anthem for those who chase experience with urgency — the ones who stay out until sunrise not to escape, but to feel alive. It’s for the wild-hearted who crave freedom, even as they’re bound by calendars, careers, and the pressure to keep it all together.

“I chose this song as my debut because it captures the duality that’s at the center of my identity,” says Owae. “There’s a part of me that always wants to throw it all away, chase chaos, and push everything to the absolute limit every night. But the calculated side of me is constantly fighting back, telling me ‘I think I need to catch a ride home.’ This internal battle truly defines who I am as a person and an artist, and I think a lot of people would relate to that.”

That duality pulses through every line of the track — from surreal flexes and drunken name-drops to the aching realization that the moment is ending. “Guess the world just isn’t built for people like us,” Owae sings, voicing the irony shared by millions who want to live freely, but feel tethered to systems built for survival, not joy.

“This song is for the ones who want to live fast, but are pulled back by the cage of the future,” says Owae. “I think we all feel it. The urge in our heart to throw it all away and escape, but the nag of society in our head that tells us it’s a fairytale and an illusion - dangerous, unrealistic and wrong.”

Raised in the same DMV neighborhood as rapper Logic and creatively reborn in New York City, Owae merges the sharpness of a strategist with the soul of a chaotic romantic. Inspired by artists like Childish Gambino, Tyler, the Creator, and Kid Cudi, he builds songs that feel both spontaneous and cinematic, playful and painfully self-aware.

This release also marks the launch of Gold Rush Records, a newly launched label and artist incubator rooted in Charlotte, NC. With a focus on high-quality visuals, strategic releases, and strong storytelling, Gold Rush Records aims to be a new tastemaker platform for emerging sounds across alternative, pop, rap, and beyond.

“Think I Need to Catch a Ride Home” is available everywhere on July 11 — for anyone who’s ever lived too hard, loved the night too much, or felt the tug-of-war between freedom and control.

more about owae

Owae is a genre-blurring rapper, singer, and storyteller whose music lives between chaos and clarity.

Raised in the same DMV neighborhood as the rapper Logic and creatively reborn in New York City, Owae lives in a state of duality: part calculated businessman, part unfiltered creative maniac.

That tension doesn’t just shape his life; it shapes his art. His music reflects both sides, merging structure with spontaneity, clarity with chaos.

Influenced by visionaries like Tyler, the Creator and Childish Gambino, along with Post Malone, Kid Cudi, and Mac Miller, his sound blends sharp hooks with clever narratives that twist and unfold like short films.

At his core, Owae is a writer. He gravitates toward themes that anyone can relate to—love, doubt, ambition, identity—and then flips them on their head, adding irony, tension, or an unexpected point of view. There’s always an ironic twist or perspective that makes the familiar feel brand new.

Originally known as Owae in high school when he first built local buzz, he’s since evolved through multiple creative identities. Now, in his fourth life as an artist, he’s bringing his ambition and sharpened sound together to take the industry by storm and finally tell his story the way it was meant to be told.
